Clarkston trucker killed

Gary Haggard of Clarkson was killed, July 15, when his truck hit a parked vehicle at the Scenic Overlook west of Kadoka, S.D., according to police reports.
Haggard, 54, was driving a tanker semi-truck on I-90 when he turned off at the exit, 8:42 a.m., Friday. The truck trailer went up the exit ramp and into the parking lot, hitting a curb. The truck tipped over and slid into a parked car.
The car’s driver and three passengers were nearby in a grassy area. Two of them, a 57-year-old Columbus, GA, woman and 63-year-old South Korean woman, were seriously injured when they were struck by their vehicle after it had been hit by the truck. They were airlifted to the Rapid City hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Haggard was taken to the Philip hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigation continues.

School letter forged

A letter circulating around town claiming Clarkston schools are “joining the year-round schooling movement” is fake, said Superintendent Dr. Rod Rock.
“The letter is forged. I do know its source. We have sent out notification that it is a forgery,” Rock said. “We have made no plans to switch to a balanced calendar.”
Information on who or why the letter was created will not be released pending completion of the investigation, he said.

‘No’ to Municode

Clarkston City Council voted unanimously, July 11, to turn down online Municode services.
The Municode ordinance searchable website would have cost $750 for initial setup; $250 for custom banner; and annual fee of $550 for web hosting. It would allow users to search the city’s ordinances on the city website.
City Council requested a review of website usage before approving purchase. The review showed 138 views in six months, said City Manager Carol Eberhardt.
“I don’t think there’s enough traffic to bother with it,” Eberhardt said.
