Generation after generation say it year after year – kids today don’t know what fun is!
So what did the kids around Oxford and Addison do this past week for fun when they had a snow-day from school? The same things their parents and grandparents did!
After traveling to the upper elementaries and Oxford Middle School, this reporter learned that the favorite snow-day activitie is still sledding, or for today’s “modern” youngster, snowboarding. Following closely were snow-fort building, snowball fights and, of course, having hot chocolate. Taking a back seat to these activities were watching television and playing video games.
So sit back, relax and take a moment to see just how similar today’s kids are to yesterday’s:
“I went to a sledding hill with some friends, and afterwards I went to a friend’s house ans went in her hot tub. We had a snowball fight while sitting in the hot tub. It was outdoors.” Alyssa McTaggart, eighth grade, OMS.
“I went to Pine Knobb Ski Resort with my family and friends. We stayed for like five hours and then went out to dinner.” Adam Nail, fifth grade, Leonard Elementary.
“I went and spent the day at a friend’s house.” Sarah Hillevrand, fourth grade, Oxford Elementary.
“We went outside and went sledding.” Mackenzie Deck, first grade Clear Lake Elementary.
“I made a snow-fort in my backyard that was like a tunnel. We had snowball fights and stuff. I shoveled the driveway for my dad.” Arin Bisaro, fourth grade, Lakeville.
“I have this friend and it was her birthday, so we got this big inner tube and went sledding down the hill.” Taylor Roop, eighth grade, OMS.
“It was my birthday on the snow day. My babysitter got stuck in her driveway, so I went to work with my mom, and my gift was unwrapped and sitting in her office. I got a big stuffed animal.” Sydney Conwell, second grade, Leonard Elementary.
“I went sledding and played in the snow with my friend.” Emily Hillevrand, fifth grade, Oxford Elementary.
“I got to go to a special luncheon with my mommy and daddy.” Sarah Baker, kindergarten, Clear Lake Elementary.
“I made a lot of snow-forts and had a snow fight. We have a huge hill in our back yard and we went sledding down. We made these jumps and stuff like that.” Russell Ferguson, seventh grade, OMS.
“I made tracks for my dog because the snow was too deep for him, and we went sledding.” Bailey Kammerer, first grade, Lakeville Elementary.
“I went to my brother’s daycare. We watched TV, played toys and took a nap.” Steven Taylor, first grade, Leonard Elementary.
“I went sledding and dug holes in the snow. It was really fun.” Sara Nieboer, fifth grade, Oxford Elementary.
“I shoveled the driveway. We made a snow-fort outside and played with my friend’s hamster.” Natalie Nyland, fourth grade, Leonard Elementary.
“I played with my friends in the snow.” Nicholas Kolean, third grade, Oxford Elementary.
“I sat around in my pajamas until the afternoon.” Kelsey Jones, second grade, Lakeville Elementary.
“We hooked up our sled to the quad and got stuck in the snow.” Haley Parker, second grade, Leonard Elementary.
“We went to visit friends and played at their house. And we went sledding and ice skating.” Haley Kornburger, second grade, Clear Lake Elementary.
“I built snow-forts by a big hill near our house and then went sledding all day.” Victoria Bartlett, seventh grade, OMS.
“I went to a friend’s house and played with my neighbor.” Ricky Amaya, fourth grade, Oxford Elementary.
“We built a snow-fort, threw snowballs and went sledding.” Kayla Albright, fifth grade, Lakeville Elementary.
“I went sledding with friends.” Nathan Lemanski, fifth grade, Oxford Elementary.
“I went sledding and snowboarding.” Adam Wombel, first grade, Leonard Elementary.
“I played in the snow, drank hot chocolate and played with my friends. I sledded, made a snowman and buried each other in the snow.” Brittany Ziegeleaur, sixth grade, OMS.
“I ice skated and snow mobiled. I got to sleep in and watch TV and play video games. I got to eat pancakes and sausage. We had snowball fights and built snow-forts.” Dylan Reis, fifth grade, Clear Lake Elementary.
“I was shoveling for my mom because she was sick.” Gabrielle Voss, second grade, Leonard Elementary.
“We went sledding and stuff, and I did flips in the snow.” James Camps, fifth, Oxford Elementary.
“I built a sled hill and went sledding. We built forts and had snowball fights. I played a few video games and watched some TV.” Makala Sutherland, fourth grade, Clear Lake Elementary.
“I was snowboarding and then my mom told me to come in and warm up. I went back and was snowboarding and fell in the swam. I got all went and it was really cold.” Cheyanne Harmon, third grade, Leonard Elementary.
“We went sledding all day.” Casey Keils, third grade, Lakeville Elementary.
“Me and my neighbor built a fort and went snow mobiling. I got to have hot chocolate and watch TV. I also got to sleep in.” Brooke Kovacic, third grade, Clear Lake Elementary.
“I pulled my brother behind on the three-wheeler. We went ice fishing and sliding on the ice. Later in the day we went to Monster Jam at the State Fair.” Shelby McIntosh, fourth grade, Leonard Elementary.
“I went outside and played in the snow a long time and we sledded. We came in and had hot chocolate and played video games with my little brother.” Jordan Macocha, sixth grade, OMS.
