OHS assembly honors extracurricular achievers

The Ian Smith Gymnasium at Oxford High School was the place to be March 20 as the school held a deafening recognition assembly to honor students who’ve achieved extracurricular excellence.
Accompanied by the OHS band, assistant principal Paul McDevitt recognized various students on sports and other extracurricular teams for their hard work this year.
This is the first time OHS has done a school-wide recognition assembly.
‘We did this because of the outstanding success we’ve had this year,? McDevitt said. ‘Hopefully we’ll be able to do another one of these in the future. This sets the bar pretty high for our students to achieve the same level of success this group of kids did.?
Among the groups recognized were the Equestrian Team for their state title, the Wrestling Team for being state runner-ups and for individual state titles, DECA for being a 2009 Entrepreneurship Promotion Project state finalist, the Bowling Team for qualifying for the state meet and for winning the Flint Metro League Championship, the band for its accomplishments and Anthony Sottile for qualifying in the chemistry olympiad.
