Dear Editor,
As president of the Clarkston Optimist Club, I want to thank the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce for honoring the Optimist Club as Non-Profit Organization of the year. As we head into our 34th year supporting the Clarkston/Independence Township community, it is a privilege to receive this honor from one of the outstanding chambers in Oakland County.
Throughout the year, the Optimist Club has provided funding through our grant program and manpower through our volunteer efforts for a wide variety of activities and projects.
Our motto is “Friend of Youth.” We now have a Junior Optimist Program (JOI Club) in every school within Clarkston Community Schools, partnering with educators to bring out the best in our kids. Other projects include co-sponsoring the Independence Day Parade, funding new equipment for the playground at Depot Park, and the Miracle Network’s new sports field for people with disabilities. These are just a few of the numerous contributions to our community.
Again, on behalf of the more than 90 members of the Clarkston Optimist Club, I wish to express my sincere thanks for this great honor.
Rob Whitcomb, president
