Attendees of the Concerts in the Park Friday night series in Depot Park have probably noticed the presence of the Clarkston Area Optimist Club.
The club applied for and received a grant from the Optimist International Foundations Childhood Health and Wellness program. Originally, Optimist Foundation grants supported the Foundation’s Childhood Cancer Campaign developed in association with Johns Hopkins University.
Recently, the program was expanded, recognizing the bread range of childhood health-related issues.
These includes healthy lifestyles, chronic diseases, mental health, and disabilities. The grant required the club to help another organization within the community that benefits area children.
Clarkston Area Youth Assistance, a non-profit community service organization committed to strengthening youth and families by preventing and reducing juvenile delinquency, neglect and abuse was chosen for the exceptional work the organization does in strengthening community youth and families.
The grant, that was matched by the Optimist Club, also provided additional funding for the concert series that has been an annual program in Clarkston.
