Lady Wolves dominated Stoney Creek’s gym on Friday night adding their second win for the season.
Anna Manilla and Delaney Kenny led the team as the girls won in overtime, 47-45.
“Defense won for us,” said Greg Warner, Clarkston Girls Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach. “It is really how we would like to win this year is with our defense.”
Defense kept the Cougars’ leading scorer to 22 points during the game.
“Manilla played really good defense and Christina Jokisch played really good defense in the middle,” Warner added.
“We had a lot of help off the bench from Natalie Drumb, Tori Trimmer, Kaci Robinson and Erin Davenport. They played really big. We had a few girls have foul trouble and we needed them to come in. Our game plan is also to play as many girls as we can.”
Another way the team wanted to win was by controlling each quarter – which they led the last three quarters.
Manilla and Kenny were the high scorers on the board, each contributing nine points. Megan Hastings added eight.
The win puts the girls at an 2-3 overall record.
“The big thing for us is getting a win under our belt against a good team,” said Warner. “We needed a win. Several of our returners weren’t happy with last year. We have have competed with the teams we lost to. This is a good team and we hung in there.
The girls played North Farmington on Tuesday and have no more scheduled games during their holiday break.
