INDEPENDENCE TWP. — The Wolves are off to the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division 1 Cross Country State Championship this Saturday at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
The Clarkston Boys and Girls Cross Country teams finished in second place to qualify during the MHSAA Division 1 Region 8 meet at Clintonwood Park last Friday.
The girls team scored 70 points during their race.
Senior Alexandra Brigham led the pack finishing in fifth place in the time of 19:17.2. Senior Anna Reineck finished in ninth place, 19:41; freshman Avery DeGrendel, 17th, 19:59.1; freshman Addison Brigham, 19th, 20:01.9; sophomore Sydney Fischer, 20th, 20:24.6; freshman Logan Robison, 49th, 21:30.5; and sophomore Ava Danielson, 57th, 22:12.9.
Oxford finished as regional champion with 56 points and Rochester finished in third with 81 points to qualify for the state championship.
The top ten teams were: Utica in fourth place with 84 points; Lake Orion, fifth, 122; Troy, sixth, 154; Rochester Adams, seventh, 157; Bloomfield Hills, eighth, 190; Utica Ford, ninth, 274; Troy Athens, tenth, 292.
The boys finished in second place in their race with 75 points.
Junior Cayden DeGrendel led the pack, finishing in eighth place in the time of 16:16.1. Sophomore Ryan Barnes finished in ninth place in the time of 16:20.2; senior Bryce Nowik, tenth, 16:21.5; senior Andrew Floros, 15th, 16:27.8; junior Jaxson Nowik, 33rd, 16:59.6; junior Joshua Ellingsworth, 37th, 17:12.9; and junior Braden Waechter, 40th, 17:21.9.
Troy finished as regional champion with 71 points and Oxford finished in third place with 80 points to qualify for the state championship.
The top ten teams also included: Utica in fourth place with 114 points; Troy Athens, fifth, 135; Lake Orion, sixth, 154; Rochester, seventh, 172; Rochester Adams, eighth, 179; Warren Cousino, ninth, 216; and Utica Ford, tenth, 255.
The Wolves compete in the state championship on Saturday. The girls race at 2:10 p.m. and boys race at 3:30 p.m. Admission is $11 and tickets must be purchased on GoFan.com. ~W.P.
