The first phase of Clarkston sidewalk repairs were completed last week, with contractors pouring concrete replacement sections throughout the city.
“Although Mother Nature has been less than cooperative, the last of the replacement sidewalks slabs were poured today (May 2),” said City Manager Jonathan Smith.
The City DPW will grind remaining heaved sidewalk slabs later in the spring. A new sidewalk planned for the west side of Main street from Miller Road to the Brioni’s parking lot is also planned for later in the season, Smith said.
“Work on this joint project with Independence Township is all set to begin, but new quotes are being sought for the concrete work,” he said. “We’ll do our best to get this project completed as soon as possible.”
The city has applied for a state road paving grant for Miller Road. The state will decide on the grant in June.
“Whether we win the grant or not, Miller Road will be repaved this year,” Smith said. “The grant will just enable us to do a more thorough rebuilding of the roadway. In the meantime, we will soon be applying hot patch to Miller Road and needed other areas, weather permitting.”
