Spikers dig in to opponents

Clarkston Varsity Volleyball opened the season with three wins at the Notre Dame Prep Quad on Tuesday, August 23.
They went 2-1 against hosts, Notre Dame. They won the first match, 25-22, and went on to lose the next match, 25-18. They won the final, 25-14.
Senior Paige Giehtbrock had 15 kills and ten digs against Notre Dame. Junior Cayla Cogan had 12 kills. Junior Kiley Gallagher had 19 digs and three aces. Junior Emery Kuebler had 36 assists and 18 digs. Sophomores Jessica Petker and Isabelle Henry had three blocks each.
The Wolves went 2-0 against Lake Orion, 25-18, 25-19. Giehtbrock had 15 kills and Cogan had ten kills. Kuebler had 29 assists and five digs and Gallagher had six digs.
They went 2-0 against Oxford as well, 25-13, 25-12.
Giehtbrock had five kills and three aces. Sophomore Chloe Giehtbrock and Cogan each had six kills. Kuebler had 18 assists. Gallagher had nine digs and Henry had five blocks.
Clarkston went 1-2 at Rockford last Thursday. They had a 2-0 win over Bryon Center, 25-18, 15-18. Paige had nine kills and nine digs. Kuebler had 21 assists and eight digs. Gallagher had 11 digs.
They lost to Rockford, 2-0; 25-22, 25-22. Paige had seven kills and Cogan had five kills. Kuebler had 18 assists and Gallagher had six digs.
The second loss was to Marian, 2-0; 25-17, 25-15. Paige had nine digs and seven kills. Kuebler had 21 assists and eight digs. Gallagher had 11 digs.
Clarkston played in their first Power Series of the season on Saturday against Troy, Walled Lake Northern and Mercy.
The Wolves opened the week on Tuesday hosting a quad. They host South Lyon East on Thursday. JV plays at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
