Students from Independence Elementary helped line the shelves at Lighthouse of Oakland County with a recent peanut butter and jelly drive.
The drive was put on by the Independence Elementary Student Council, which is made out of fourth and fifth graders, in partnership with Lighthouse. They spread the word by creating posters, flyers, video announcements and sending out e-blasts.
The council collected 419 jars of peanut butter and jelly over a three-week period. There was a competition by grade level, which the Kindergarten students won by collecting 97 jars.
Lighthouse will use the donations to help families in need over the upcoming summer months.
