Track and field athletes take on county, finals

Clarkston athletes competed in the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division 1 Track and Field State Finals at Rockford High School, June 3.
For the Clarkston Boys Track and Field team, the 1,600-meter relay team with senior Mark Palmeter, senior Colin Bastuba, sophomore Gabe Van Goor and sophomore Micah finished in seventh place in the time of 3:23.40.
The 3,200-meter relay team with senior Frank Schuster, junior Bryce Nowik, junior Andrew Floros and sophomore Joshua Ellingsworth finished in 18th place in the time of 8:01.91.
The three qualifiers in individual events finished as follows: Palmeter in 16th place in the finals of the 400-meter dash in the time of 50.61; Nowik, 20th place in the finals of the 1,600-meter run, 4:30.42; and Bastuba in 16th place during preliminaries in the 110-meter hurdles, 15.43.
For the Clarkston Girls Track and Field team, the 400-meter relay team with senior Jurney Harris, junior Cassandra King, sophomore Scarlett Keenan and sophomore Brooke Ratliff finished in 16th place in the time of 50.38.
The three qualifiers in individual events finished as follows: junior Genna Golab tied for fifth place in the pole vault with a height of 11-03; sophomore Audrey Morgan tied for 24th place in the pole vault, 9-09; and Harris finished in 24th place during the preliminaries in the 100-meter dash in the time of 12.79.
Junior Kathleen Thiboudeau represented Clarkston Everest Collegiate at the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division 4 Track and Field State Finals in Hudsonville.
Thibodeau finished in 26th place in the 100-meter dash in the time of 13.56.

Clarkston Boys and Girls Track and Field teams finished in eighth place during the 64th Oakland County Championship at Oxford High School, May 26.
The girls team finished the event with 32 points to take eighth place out of 33 teams.
Results for the girls are: in the 100-meter dash, Harris in sixth place in the time of 12.71; 400-meter dash, sophomore Keira Zorski, 12th, 1:01.33; 3,200-meter run, senior Rebekah Wilson, 13th, 11:55.07; shot put, junior Abby Hasenfratz, 15th, 30-09.25; high jump, sophomore Carsey Collins, fifth, 5-0; pole vault, Morgan, 10-06; Golab, fourth, 10-06; sophomore Lily Banka, 12th, 9-0; and long jump, Collins, 12th, 15-0.75.
The 400-meter relay team of Harris, Keenan, Ratliff and King finished in third place in the time of 50.73. The team of Keenan, Zorski, freshman Skylar Drinkard and Lily Prainito finished in sixth place in the 800-meter relay, 1:48.64. The team of Wilson, freshman Ava Danielson, freshman Sydney Fischer and senior Cate Cotter finished in sixth place in the 3,200-meter relay, 10:08.48. The team of Zorski, Drinkard, freshman Marlayna Dropps and senior Rain Lemieux finished in seventh place in the 1,600-meter relay, 4:12.43.
The boys team finished with 26 points out of 33 points.
Highlights from the day included Nowik setting a new school record in the 800-meter run and improving his previous record by four seconds. He finished in fourth place in the time of 1:55.29. The previous school record was held for 52 years by K.K. Carlson from 1971.
The 800-meter relay team also set a new schoold record as they finished in fifth place in the time of 1:30.51. The team is Chaney, Van Goor, Palmeter and junior Keehan LaVell.
Results for the boys are: in the 200-meter dash, Chaney in seventh place in the time of 22.81; 1,600-meter run, senior Henry Poploskie, ninth, 4:29.10; junior Andrew Floros, tenth, 4:29.61; 3,200-meter run, sophomore Cayden DeGrendel, 21st, 10:01.87; sophomore Jaxson Nowik, 29th, 10:40.34; 110-meter hurdles, Bastuba, seventh, 15.48; and discus, junior Nick Waszczenko, fifth, 154-03.
The 1,600-meter relay team of Bastuba, Chaney, Van Goor and Palmeter finished in fourth place in the time of 3:23.36. The team of Floros, DeGrendel, Ellingsworth and senior Cooper Collins finished in fifth place in the 3,200-meter relay, 8:11.62. The team of LaVell, Collins, freshman Mason Sidaway and sophomore Leon-Fountain Rence finished in 12th place in the 400-meter relay, 45.22. ~WRP
