Wendi’s Word: Halloween with the kids

There’s nothing like the motivation of food. Or in this case candy as I struggled to get an Ironman costume on a two-year-old who just was not having it.
I simply told him in order to go trick-or-treating to get candy he would have to wear his costume. His eyes widened like he was remembering when he picked out a KitKat bar from the neighbors.
It worked. Oliver let me put his costume on and once he was out the front door he didn’t even remember not wanting to wear it in the first place. He even attempted the mask when older brother, Jonathan, put on his Hulk mask. Yes, we went with Marvel superheroes. Jonathan picked them at the Disney Store before the Great Lakes Crossing location closed.
It was a good year for Halloween – as the boys took right to walking through the neighborhood. Or in Oliver’s case racing through the neighborhood. Jonathan stuck with a group of neighbors.
There were other Halloween activities we could have done after trick-or-treating was donem but we stuck to staying at home.
And here we are only a few hours later in the month of November. Holiday songs will begin soon. Holiday decorations will be dug out of the basement.
Maybe…just maybe within the next month a mere 50,000 words will be written for National Novel Writing Month.
I attempted to plan. I was really ready for planning in September. But, then October hit and the “hmph” wasn’t there. When I got out the notebook or looked through photos for inspiration – nope still nothing.
But, this morning as the coffee beans were grinding away the opening scene just popped into my head. Now, it does change quite a bit in the plot, but it’s NaNoWriMo it’s just a rough draft and can always be changed.
So with the new opening I am at least 400 words. Hmmm, the mental imagery seemed like so many more words this morning making coffee.
If you ever wanted to write a novel – this is a great time to just get a draft done and join the fun. No worries about making write-ins – it’s all virtual this year. I know it’s a busy time of year. I know it and I feel it – in my head the list is starting to prep for the holidays and both of the boys birthdays. Eep!
