INDEPENDENCE TWP. — The Clarkston Boys Volleyball team is ready to kick off its second season this week
“We are looking forward to playing some games,” said Kramer Everett, head coach.
The Wolves have seven players returning from last season. They have an addition of nine new players.
Everett added it already looks good this season with the players they have.
“Having seven guys who have played before instead of one is a pretty drastic difference,” he said. “It helps the new guys to get caught up and is just a way better jumping off point.”
Everett shared the off season growth was remarkable.
“Three of them played club ball,” he said. “The other four did not, but even the guys who didn’t play club team have obviously been in the gym working on their skills, getting more comfortable around the ball and around the game. Their progress is evident.”
The Wolves and Everett invite the community come watch boys volleyball.
“It’s a fast, exciting version of the sport,” Everett said. “Beach volleyball, women’s indoor volleyball, men’s indoor volleyball – they all have their own nuances. Men’s tends to be the most explosive version of the sport overall. It’s a fun way to watch. It’s a fun thing to be a part of. The guys pick up the game so quickly. They learn a few skills, apply some athleticism and they hit the ground running with the sport. The fact they are new doesn’t slow them down too much. It is still super exciting.”
Everett added he is excited for this season because boys volleyball in Michigan is growing.
“There are 99 teams in the state,” he said. “The growth of the game and the excitement of the game in the last year as we head into the first MHSAA season in spring 2026 – it’s all good things. Everything about it is good.”
The Wolves opened the season with a best of five against Dakota High School on Tuesday.
“Most of their main players are returning,” Everett said.
They head to Lake Orion on Thursday for the Crosstown Showdown, beginning at 6 p.m.
“Lake Orion had a lot of seniors last year so they will be on the fresher side,” Everett said. “Tony (Scavarda) is a great coach. He will get them brought up to speed quickly like he did last year. We have some good challenges right off the bat.”
The Wolves head to Farmington on Wednesday, April 9, 5:30 p.m.
