Grapplers and cagers host their home openers this week and are ready for tough opposition.
Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball team hosts their home opener against Ferndale on Friday.
They opened the season against Waterford Mott on Tuesday.
Long-time head coach Dan Fife said they haven’t seen both teams play and it is the first week of play for all the teams.
“We are away at Mott so whenever you go to an away gym you better be ready to play,” he added. “We will find out who we are right away.”
Ferndale is in a lower OAA division and wanted to play Clarkston, he said.
As of last week the starting line up had not been set.
The Wolves hosted their annual scrimmage on Nov. 29 and out of it the coaches and players saw a mix of good things and things to work on.
“We did good at times and bad at times,” said Fife. “It is early so we are going to make mistakes but we are going to get better.”
JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.

Clarkston Varsity Wrestling hosts a quad on Wednesday as they take on Waterford Kettering and Grand Blanc.
“We look good,” said Wrestling Head Coach Derek Moscovic. “We have a lot of kids to make an impact. We have seven senior. We can compete against anybody. Kettering has a good team and so does Grand Blanc. They both have a lot of strong wrestlers so we will have to be ready to go.”
Waterford Kettering will be looking for a win after the Wolves beat them in the district round last season.
“There be no doubt they will be looking to beat us just like every team we wrestle,” Moscovic said. “It would make their year to beat us which is something we need to be aware of and ready to go. We don’t want that to happen.”
He added Kettering has a lot of wrestlers returning this season. Grand Blanc also has a few returners, including state qualifiers and placers from last season.
“It’s going to be a tough dual meet,” Moscovic said. “I cant remember the last time Grand Blanc beat us. They will be more than happy to beat the snot out of us if they are allowed to.”
Both teams will help Clarkston before they face off their league opponents next week and Oakland County teams on Dec. 20 and 21.
“It is good to wrestle teams from all over ? in our league, in the county, so wrestling outside of it helps us prepare for districts, regionals and the state tournament,” Moscovic said. “I am always excited to wrestle outside of the league.”
The boys took first place at the John Glenn tournament on Saturday to open the season.
