15 years ago – 2002
“Property rezoned” Despite resident concerns the Springfield Township Board voted 6-1 for the go-ahead for property of 7701 Lavon, a residential property, on Dixie Highway near I-75 to be rezoned for commercial.
“Clarkston Elementary celebrates life in the U.S.” Students at Clarkston Elementary participated in a full day of fun and educational workshops for Festival U.S.A which focused on different aspects of history, culture and freedoms in the United States.
“Local official to be honored at MHSAA banquet” Clarkston resident Kenneth Wikle, a soccer official working primarily in Oakland County, was one of more than 300 individuals recognized at the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Annual Officials’ Awards and Alumni banquet.

25 years ago – 1992
“Supreme Court showdown” The two-year fight over Clarkston cityhood moved to a bigger ring – the Michigan Supreme Court. Independence Township filed the appropriate paperwork after the Michigan Court of Appeals uphold an earlier ruling from the Oakland County Circuit Court for Clarkston to become a city.
“Meeting Mother Nature” Lynn Conover, an assistant parks naturalist at Independence Oaks County Park, entertained kids during Tuning Your Tots to Spring. Her puppet, “Mother Nature,” was a hit with youngsters during a puppet show.
“Defense keeps 3-2 Wolves in matches” Clarkston Girls Varsity Soccer defense helped the team by blocking two Greater Oakland Activities opponents from wins as the Lady Wolves defeated Southfield, 6-1; and Waterford Mott, 2-0.

50 years ago – 1967
“Latest electronic methods to be employed in township water-sewer studies” Independence Township officials met at Pontiac office to sign contracts authorizing use of IBM 1130 computer for the preparation of sanitary sewer and water systems program.
“Olympics at Bailey Lake” Fourth graders at Bailey Lake School held their own Olympics after studying a unit on Mediterranean lands.
“Round the town” Carrie Evans was treated with two birthday cakes for her eighth birthday as she celebrated with friends and family later during the weekend.
