Middle school athletes from Lake Orion Community Schools placed in sixth place or higher in 13 events at the Oakland County Seventh and Eighth Grade Track and Field Invitational, recently held at Clarkston High School.
The Scripps boys team placed 10th overall, while the Oakview girls and Scripps girls ranked 10th and 12th, respectively, from a group of 27 schools.
Two eighth-grade Scripps athletes placed second in the county meet. Niklas Rippon was second in the 55-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.28. Shannon Doyle came in second for her long jump of 14 feet-3.5 inches.
Two other Scripps students placed third overall in their track events. Eighth grader Phillip Antosh was third for his long jump effort of 17 feet-5.75 inches. Seventh grader Niki Read was third in the 1600-meter run, with a time of 5:35.38.
Scripps eighth grader Kyle Lawton earned a fourth place finish for his 1600-meter run, recording a time of 4:56.91.
Two athletes from Oakview Middle School finished fourth overall in their events. Chelsea Shackelford, an eighth grader, ran the 70-meter dash in a time of 9.51. Hillary Reilly also came in fourth for her 800-meter run, with a time of 2:32.80.
Fifth place finishes were recorded by Josh Schrauger, Alex Hare and a relay team. Schrauger, an Oakview eighth grader, posted a time of 2:15.83 in the 800-meter run, while Hare, a Scripps eighth grader, completed his high jump at 5 feet-4 inches.
The relay team comprised of Scripps eighth graders Even Moran, Zac Clouse, Chad Rainey and Antosh, finished their race in 4:05.58.
Oakview eighth grader Cortney Kimmel ran the 55-meter hurdles in 9:38, and Scripps eighth grader Chelsea Carpenter turned in a time of 31.57 in the 200-meter hurdles. Both earned sixth place finishes.
The 4X100 relay team of Halee Doyle, Shannon Doyle, Jacqlyn Hardenburg and Megan Colver, all eighth graders at Scripps, turned in a time of 57.06 for sixth place.
‘We are very proud of our Lake Orion track and field athletes,? said Gail Lohr, Scripps coach. ‘The county meet brings the top athletes from Oakland County together, making this meet the most challenging.
‘A number of our athletes achieved personal records, and that in itself is noteworthy,? she said.
