People love being plugged into the goings-on in their community. Some local bands will literally be plugged in to the seventh annual Toys for Tots event at the Oakland County Sportsmen’s Club on Dec. 3.
The night kicks off at 2 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. OCSC is located at 4770 Waterford Road in Independence Township.
Charlie Allen Martin of the Silver Bullet Band will perform with 2XL, Urban Nomads, Terrie Lea and the Mustangs, Phil Treais Group, Skee Brothers, Targus and others will play on two stages, while John O’Leary of WCSX 94.7 will emcee the evening.
All it takes to get in the door is a $10 donation to Toys for Tots or a new unwrapped toy.
Jim Hamblin, drummer for the Urban Nomads said, ‘It’s a feel-good situation. So many of us know each other and to do something good makes us feel good.?
‘It’s rewarding to give something back to the community,? Hamblin added.
The Nomads have been playing together for nearly six years and have been instrumental in making OCSC Toys for Tots events a success, organizers said.
Urban Nomads play a ‘full-gamut?, classic rock, both covers and original songs, as well as an acoustic set.
?(Sometimes) it’s like we open the show for ourselves,? Hamblin said.
Martin also reeled in local band 2XL, which has been together for more than 20 years.
The band, which plans to deliver classic rock cover tunes from the likes of Led Zeppelin and Bad Company, will make its OCSC debut this year.
‘Sure it will be fun,? Guitarist Phil Vigelius said.
‘It’s great to help the kids out, making the kids Christmases special’we’re hoping there’s going to be a great turnout.?
Phil Treais, performing with his band, plays electric folk rock.
The Waterford musician will make his second appearance and kick off the afternoon with his 45-minute set.
‘They really liked us and they wanted us back,? Treais said.
‘It’s a great cause and a great place to do it.
‘It’s amazing how giving people are when they put in some effort,? Treais added.
He plans on playing a new song called, ‘It’s a pity,? about family hardships.
‘There are scenarios where you just shake your head,? Treais said.
‘Not everybody’s on easy street.?
Fans say Treais? songs are both comforting and inspirational.
