Library to host Valentine party featuring music, presentation

Looking for a new friend?
Then the Orion Township Library wants to hear from you.
The library will host a ‘Let’s Be Friends,? Valentine-themed party on Sunday, Feb. 11 from 2-4 p.m.
The party, for the Friends of the Library, will include a special live auction, music from Joe Tackett (from ‘Start the Party?), refreshments, a presentation on the library’s plan for expansion and a drawing for a champagne dinner at Kruse & Muer on the Lake.
‘The Kruse & Muer dinner is valued at $75,? said Penny Peterson, head of the library’s outreach and senior services.
‘It’s for Friends members only, but it does give the right to become a Friend,? Peterson said, noting that people could sign up to become members at the door, or any other time prior to the event at the library.
Membership cost to become a Friend of the Library is $10 for an individual membership and $25 for a family membership. The cost for a student membership is $5.
Peterson said there are close to 300 Friends of the Library, but many have never met.
‘It’s a real good ice-breaker,? she said of the Valentine party.
She added that the ability of those connected with the library to relay details of the upcoming bond proposal to other members of the community will be critical for the bond’s success at the polls.
The party’s live auction is similar to a white elephant gift exchange, according to Peterson.
She said those attending can bring new or gently used treasures and collectibles, which will be bid on – with all proceeds going to the library.
Peterson said the library continues to expand its online resources, some of which are available without a library card.
One feature that requires a card, but can still be accessed at home or school is ‘homework help,? geared to tutor students of all ages.
‘The homework help is a great feature,? Peterson said. ‘It goes from fourth grade up to the junior college level.?
The library site, accessible at www.orionlibrary.org also has current tax forms that can be downloaded for free.
