TV spot earns OHS grad $20K

Nathan Bunker is $20,000 richer after creating a commerical for a local classic rock station.
On Monday morning, the 23-year-old Oxford native was announced as the Grand Prize winner of the ‘Commercial Casting Call? contest held by 94.7-WCSX.
‘It took me about 10 minutes to figure out a script,? said Bunker, who came up with the idea while sitting in his cubicle at the security company he works for in California.
The idea was for listeners to make commercials telling ‘why they listen to CSX at work.?
Bunker’s amusing 23-second commercial entitled ‘Dream On? and starring his friends Mike Darling (as the boss) and Ben Begley (as Steve) can be viewed at www.wcsx.com/tvspot/default.asp.
According to Bunker’s mom, Lisa, the commercial debuted Monday evening during the Red Wings game on Fox Sports Net. She said it played five times during the game.
Although the commercial’s only 23 seconds long, Bunker, who’s a 2002 graduate of Oxford High School, said it took two hours to film plus another three hours to edit. He basically earned $4,000 an hour.
When asked what he plans to do with all that prize money, Bunker said, ‘I’m not exactly sure.?
Friends are telling him to buy a car or invest it, but Bunker’s considering paying a few bills and saving the rest for the future.
Writing and filming a commercial is something right up Bunker’s alley.
He’s preparing to graduate from Columbia College Hollywood ? a school of film, television and liberal arts in Tarzana, California ? on July 1 with a bachelor’s degree in cinema.
His emphasis is on writing and stop motion animation.
Stop motion animation is a general term for a technique which makes static objects appear to move. The object is moved by very small amounts between individually photographed frames, producing the effect of motion when the series of frames is played back at normal speed. ‘It’s really, really time consuming, but it’s a lot of fun,? he said.
After graduation, Bunker wants to make stop motion animation films similar to the wildly popular Wallace & Gromit, but ‘a little bit more for adults.?
