Addison man leads deputies on chase

A 41-year-old Addison Twp. man could face felony charges of fleeing and eluding and operating a vehicle while intoxicated after leading Oakland County sheriff’s deputies on a chase Thursday night.
According to the sheriff’s report, a sheriff’s deputy witnessed the man traveling 58 mph going eastbound on Lakeville Rd. in his 2006 silver Saab.
The man initially slowed to a stop, but then quickly took off, eventually ending up in his own yard on Meadow Ct.
According to the report, the man drove over a tree and headed into his backyard where he hit another tree and finally stopped the vehicle.
The Addison man exited his vehicle and began running.
Once the deputy entered the man’s driveway, his wife approached the patrol car and told the deputy where her husband ran off to in the woods.
According to the report, the man’s wife appeared to be intoxicated and had a strong odor of intoxicants.
K-9 units and an air unit searched the perimeter and found the man hiding in briar bushes in the back wooded area of the home using their thermal imaging machine.
The man appeared to be intoxicated due to his bloodshot, watery eyes, flushed face and slurred speech. He refused to take a preliminary breath test.
He was transported to North Oakland Medical Center for clearance and a blood draw and then to the Oakland County Jail. He was released after a 24-hour observation period.
The Addison man has three prior convictions for operating a vehicle while intoxicated in 1983, 1998 and 1999.
An arraignment won’t be set until his toxicology reports are finished, which could take weeks.
If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison for fleeing and eluding and five years for his fourth time operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
