Grapplers suffer first loss of the season

The Oxford Wildcat Wrestling lost its first meet of the year, finishing second against Swan Valley on Saturday, Jan 24.
Even though they lost to Swan Valley, they were able to beat Bad Axe, St. Francis and Ogemaw Heights, running their record to an impressive 24-1.
Matt Frisch was one of the highlights of the tournament, winning the Most Valuable Player for the lower weight classes.
Oxford Wrestling Head Coach Scott Couch is hoping to take some positive aspects out of the loss.
‘Hopefully we can take this loss and use it to build for the state tournament,? he said.
Even with the loss, the Wildcats continued to dominate Flint Metro League play, defeating Linden and Swartz Creek in a dual meet on Wednesday, Jan 21.
The boys defeated Linden 50-22 and followed with an impressive 73-0 shutout of Swartz Creek.
‘We are starting to wrestle good and that is what we want,? Coach Couch said. ‘We want to peak at the right time, which is February and March, and I believe we are on pace for that.?
