Bravo: swim team earns first-ever victory

The Varsity Boys swimming closed out its inaugural Flint Metro League season by capturing its first victory in the FML on Tuesday, Feb 17, beating Flint Kearsley 101-68 while losing in the same meet to Swartz Creek 104-69.
‘The meet was a very exciting one and I think we did very well,? said Oxford Swimming Coach Jackie Boswell. ‘We were missing three of our fourteen team members so it will be interesting to see how we finish at the League Meet this Friday and Saturday (the 27th and 28th) at Fenton High School.?
The Individual results were as followed:
In the 200 Medley Relay, the Wildcat A-relay team of Kyle Shick, Jake Clark, Jimmy Walker and Taylor Keller finished ahead of Kearsley’s A relay team with a time 0f 2:08.70. That time was good enough to place them second against Swartz Creek.
In the 200 meter freestyle, Sophomore Zach Venema took second against Kearsley and third against Swartz Creek with his time of 2:19.97.
In the 200 Individual Medley, Freshman Jacob Pierzinski finished first against Kearsley and second against Swartz Creek, while Junior Andrew Raczka finished second and third respectively.
In the 50 meter freestyle, Britt had the third fastest time with 26.01. Clark and Keller also scored points for the Wildcats in the event.
The Wildcats didn’t score any points for diving, while both Swartz Creek and Kearsley each scored 6.
In the 100 meter butterfly, Raczka came in first overall with a time of 1:07.32, and Walker came in second against Kearsley and third against Swartz Creek.
In the 100 meter freestyle, Britt came in first against Kearsley and third against Swartz Creek with a time of 58.71.
In the 500 meter freestyle, Venema and Freshman Joey Tasch finished second and third respectively. Venama set his personal best of 6:16.76 in the event.
In the 200 meter Freestyle Relay, Oxford’s A Relay of Pierzinski, Britt, Walker and Raczka went a time of 1:46.32 for a first place finish against both teams.? Oxford’s B Relay of Shick, Junior Coty Perreault, Tasch and Venema came in 3rd.
In the 100 meter Backstroke, Shick’s time of 1:14.20 was fast enough for a first place finish against Kearsley and a second place finish against Swartz Creek.? Junior Cody Fredericks finished right behind Shick and Keller also earned points for the Wildcats.
In the 100 Breaststroke: Pierzinski took first against Kearsley and third against Swartz Creek with a time of 1:21.01.?
In the 400 meter Free Relay:? Oxford’s A Relay of Raczka, Walker, Britt, and Pierzinski took first against Kearsley and second against Swartz Creek with a time of 3:59.30.? Oxford’s B Relay of Tasch, Venema, Clark, and Keller came in third against Kearsley.
The Wildcats finished its regular season on Thursday, Feb 19 in a non-conference meet against Rochester High school.
The boys lost 121-62, but during the meet, they honored their lone Senior and Captain of the team, Spencer Britt.
The individual results were:
200 Medley Relay:? Oxford’s A Relay of Shick, Clark, Tasch, and Venema took third with a time of 2:09.61.
200 Freestyle: Tasch came in third with a time 2:25.24 and Venema came in fourth.
200 Individual Medley: Pierzinski came in third with a time of 2:32.59 and Raczka came in fourth.
50 Freestyle: Walker set the school record with his time of 24.97, which was only 15-hundredths of a second off the pool record.? He finished first, Britt came in third and Corey Bell came in fifth.
Rochester had three divers for a 13 point advantage.
100 Butterfly:? Raczka’s time of 1:07.35 placed him second while Walker came in fifth.
100 Freestyle:? Britt’s time of 58.82 slide him into second, while Keller finished fourth for the Wildcats.?
500 Freestyle:? Tasch set a new school record with a time of 6:14.97, finishing second.? Venema came in fifth.
200 Free Relay:? Oxford’s A Relay of Pierzinski, Walker, Britt and Raczka set the school record with a time of 1:41.84, but were touched out by Rochester’s A Relay.
100 Backstroke:? Shick took first place with a time of 1:10.35, which is now the school record.? Junior Cody Fredericks came in third and Keller finished fourth.
100 Breaststroke:? Pierzinski came in second with a time of 1:22.06 and Clark finished third.
400 Freestyle Relay:? Oxford’s B Relay of Tasch, Sophomore Corey Bell, Clark, and Shick came in third with a time of 4:27.04.
Overall Coach Boswell was pleased with the performance, saying that it was a great chance for the boys to compete against fast swimmers.
‘I’m really proud of them and this has been a great first season for the boys,? she said.
