The Varsity Romeo golf team has been successful against the Oxford in the past, but the Wildcats Varsity Golf team was able play an Aprils Fools? joke on Romeo and defeat them 174-181 last Wednesday.
With a cool wind bothering both teams all day, it was going to be a challenge to shoot a low score through nine holes, but the Wildcats managed.
Doug Piesko shot a 42 to lead the Wildcats, while Brandon Schin and Liam Gallivan each shot 43s to contribute to the victory. Cody Collier finished out the scoring with a 46.
‘The results were okay,? said Oxford Head Coach Terry Kelley. ‘We will take a win when we can get it.?
During the early part of the year, the weather is a key factor on how the ball travels and how the course is kept. Coach Kelley expressed that the scores weren’t what he expected out of his players, but understood that the time of the year had something to do with it.
Their earlier game that week against Macomb Luthern High North was turned into a scrimmage, therefore leaving an open date in the schedule. The team that Coach Kelley would like to fill it ? Romeo.
