Track bursts into FML with wins over Lapeer West

The Varsity Track teams opened the Flint Metro League portion of their season with convincing victories over Lapeer West. The girls won 110-26, while the boys finished the sweep with a 109-27 trouncing.
The Girls were led by Junior Kate Wolanin who dominated, finishing first in the High jump, the 300-meter low hurdles, the 100-meter hurdles and the 1600 meter relay.
Junior distance runner Shannon Seeley contributed three first place finishes for the Wildcats in the 3200-meter relay and the 800-meter run. She also contributed the first place finish for 1600 meter relay team.
Senior Katherine Bosetti finished first in the pole vault and the 400-meter relay, while Senior Brooke Bocquet took home first in the shot put.
Wildcat Track Head Coach Andrew McDonald was thrilled with the victory. ‘It is very nice to start the year at 1-0 in the FML? he said. ‘The girls continue to improve and next week we face a Lapeer East team that will be a difficult test.?
Senior Mike Stumph led the charge for the boys. He finished first in the 100 meter dash, the 800 meter relays and the 200 meter dash.
Senior Spencer Britt also had a great day, finishing first in the 3200 meter relay, first in the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter relay.
Sophomore Daniel Peck finished first in the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter relay, and was also a part of the winning 1600 meter relay team.
‘It was nice start for a young team; there was great contribution from every athlete at this meet? said Coach McDonald. ‘Hopefully we can keep this momentum and beat Lapeer East this week.?
The teams finished off the week by participating in the Raider Relays, where the girls finished second overall and the boys finished seventh.
Freshman Olivia Hernandez finished fourth in the 6400 meter relays and eighth in the 3200 meter relay. She was also able to establish personal best times for those events.
Senior Hannah George had a great day, finishing first in the 1600 meter relay, second in the sprint medley and the 800 meter relay and third in the high jump. Coach McDonald was proud of her effort and said that he can count on her to get points in every event she runs in.
Junior Kevin Jickling helped the 1600 meter relay team finish third, and he was sixth in the 800 meter relay. Sophomore Aaron Stuk finished fourth in the shuttle hurdles.
Coach McDonald was proud of the way the track teams preformed coming off a meet earlier in the week.
‘They continue to work hard and prepare for the next upcoming meet.?
