Swimmers lose FML opener

The Wildcat Varsity Swim and Dive lost both meets it had this past week to Fenton and Notre Dame Prep.
The Wildcat’s began their last season in the Flint Metro League with a 115-71 loss against Fenton on Thursday, Sept. 17.
The Wildcat’s got off to a strong start by winning the first two events of the night, the 200 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle, but Fenton flexed their muscles and pulled away throughout the evening.
The A relay team of Senior Jennifer Sunman, Sophomore Ellen Saville, Sophomore Claire Patrell and Junior Jenna Mallard touched the wall first in 2:15.63 in the 200 Medley Relay.
Mallard also won the 200 Freestyle in 2:12:.52, which was one second from the school record.
Patrell continued the strong opening for the Wildcats by placing second in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:44.48. Saville came in fourth.
Junior Anna Daves finished third with a time of 30.13 in the 50 Freestyle, which was two-hundredths of a second ahead of teammate Amanda Delapaz.
The Wildcats finished third, fourth and fifth in the diving portion. Senior Olivia Martin finished third with 148.30 points. Sophomore Bailey Terrian came in fourth and Junior Kayla Pollard rounded out the top five.
Patrell set the record in the 100 Butterfly with her 1:08.86 first place finish in the event.
The top Wildcat in the 100 Freestyle was Freshman Casey Keils, placing fourth with time of 1:06.67.
Junior Sarah Skelton time of 6:14.87 placed her third in the 500 Freestyle and Senior Kaitlyn Kimmel finished fifth.
The A relay of Mallard, Daves, Patrell and Skelton came in first in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:56.19. The B relay of Senior Kara Charles, Sophomore Emily Gilmore, Junior Jasmine Vickery and Senior Rikki Jarvis came in third.
The top Wildcat in the 100 backstroke was Sunman, who came in fourth with a time of 1:18.01.
Saville came in second in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:23.98. Gilmore and Kimmel took fourth and fifth.
The 400 Free Relay team of Mallard, Keils, Daves and Saville finished second with a time of 4:23.05. Mallard broke the school record in her portion of the event with a time of 1:00.04.
The loss against Fenton came on the heels of a 96-89 loss against Notre Dame Prep on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
The Wildcats took second in the 200 Medley, as Sunman, Saville, Patrell and Keils posted a time of 2:18.88.
The Wildcat’s followed up the solid opening event performance by sweeping the 200 Freestyle. Mallard finished first with a time of 2:15.73. Skelton and Sunman came in second and third.
The Wildcat’s kept the momentum up with a second and third in the 200 Individual Medley and 50 Free. Patrell’s 2:43.40 time placed her second in the 200 Individual and Saville came in third, while Daves came in second in the 50 Free with a time of 29.94 and Keils came in third.
Olivia Martin gave the Wildcat’s another first place with her 141.45 points in the diving competition. Pollard came in third and Sophomore Makala Sutherland finished fourth.
Patrell came in first in the 100 Butterfly, posting a time of 1:10.23.
The 100 Freestyle saw the top Wildcat, Daves, finish fourth with a time of 1:06.90.
A strong performance was needed in the 500 Freestyle, and Skelton delivered a second place finish with a time of 6:16.31. Kimmel came in third.
The 200 Free Relay team followed with another first place victory as the A relay of Patrell, Jarvis, Skelton and Mallard touched the wall in 1:55.48.
The Wildcats were able to muster a third and fourth place finish in the 100 backstroke, with Sunman taking third in 1:17.95 and Charles taking fourth.
Saville was the top Wildcat in the 100 Breaststroke with her third place time of 1:26.17.
In the final event of the night, the 400 Freestyle Relay, the team of Keils, Daves, Saville and Mallard claimed the top spot with a time of 4:19.23. The B Relay of Sunman, Jarvis, Freshman Sammi Kurk and Skelton finished third.
The next meet for the girls is Sept. 29 at Brandon.
