Booters take 1st in Gaylord tourney

The weekend of Sept. 19 and 20 was kind to the Oxford Soccer Club’s U-12 Boys team as they brought home a first place trophy from the Gaylord Alpine Soccer Stampede Tournament in Gaylord, MI.
They defeated a team from Clio 4-0 in the final game to take home the trophy. They also did not allow a goal throughout the tournament.
Nine teams entered the tournament, and the teams were split into three brackets. The winner of each division advanced along with one Wildcard team.
The Oxford Club finished the first day as the top overall team after they defeated teams from Muskegon and Bay City, shutting out both teams. Muskegon wound up being the wild card team, so the boys had to play Muskegon again, in the semifinals of the tournament.
After shutting Muskegon out again, it turned into an all Flint Metro League final as a team from Clio faced the boys for the championship. Each player received a medal for their success.
The team is made up of mostly seventh and sixth graders, with one fifth grader on the team.
