Jr. ‘cats finish season strong

The Oxford Jr. Wildcat’s Freshman Blue team clinched the third seed in the Northern Youth Football League with their 12-0 victory over Birmingham on Oct. 18.
This was coming from a team that started 0-2 in a division that many thought they couldn’t play in.
‘They played two teams that are now headed to the playoffs,? said Assistant Coach Randy Stewart. ‘They had no confidence, no direction; they just looked lost.?
According to Stewart, some coaching adjustments were made after the second loss, and the team responded.
‘We came up with a win against Auburn Hills in the third game, and ever since then, these kids have just been a machine,? he said.
Running Back Ethan Williams led the Jr. Wildcats with over 100 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Quarterback Ryan Miller led a six minute drive late in the fourth quarter that sealed the game. Miller scored on a quarterback sneak from the one-yard line.
It was the team’s third straight shutout of an opponent. They only gave up 14 points over the final six games.
They lost the opening round playoff game for the Jr. Wildcat’s was against Clarkston, 13-12 on Oct. 24.
