Bowlers kick off season with wins

The guys and girls bowling teams started the season off on the right note after both teams defeated Brandon in their season opener on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The boys were just as impressive in their bowling efforts, winning 27-3. The boys were led by senior Captain Mike Magyar, who threw five strikes in the baker games and bowled a 221 and 206 in his matches. Senior Brandon Wynkoop won both of his matches with games of 225 and 211.

The team followed up their successful efforts against Brandon by traveling to a singles tournament in Rochester for the 3rd Annual Romeo High School Fundraising tournament on Sunday, Dec. 6, where they had two bowlers, Cartner and Wynkoop, reach the finals of the event.
Cartner qualified as the 12th seed and was the sole Wildcat girl to move on past the qualifying round. She won her next three matches before losing in the finals.
The boys sent two bowlers to the final field, Wynkoop as the seventh seed and Magyar as the 14th seed. Wynkoop had a first round bye and Magyar easily won his first round match. Both won their second round match and made the final eight before Magyar lost in the next round but Wynkoop made his way to the finals before losing.
‘I was extremely proud of our team,? said Head Coach JR Lafnear. ‘Winning the league opener and getting two bowlers in the finals was awesome. To watch Mike (Magyar), Brandon (Wynkoop) and Kelly (Cartner) in the tournament was as fun as it gets. The team go a lot of early season experience that will help us later on this year as well as in years to come.?
The team bowls again Clio on Saturday, Dec. 12.
