Icers dominate Lapeer squads

The Oxford Varsity Hockey has put the Flint Metro League on full notice after cruising to two league victories over Lapeer East and West this past week.
In their latest game against Lapeer East, the Wildcats fired 46 shots on the East goalie, and getting nine past him in a convincing 9-3 victory. The Wildcats had 11 players get on the score sheet, with seven players scoring at least one goal. Alex Kaks led the Wildcats with two goals and two assists, while Nick Hocker also ripped two past the goalie.
Will Buday and Blaine Marney had one goal and two assists each, while Chad Wicker and Dennis Siitari each had one goal and one assist. Tim Perks added a goal.
Hockey Coach Dave Hague gave credit to the East goalie after his busy night in net. ‘Their goalie made some nice saves, especially early, but we were able to maintain good pressure throughout the night,? said Hague. ‘I thought our defensemen were very strong and we had good puck movement in the offensive zone. Overall, this was a nice win for us.?
That victory came on the heels of a 8-0 victory over Lapeer West. However, the score wasn’t indicative of the entire game. The score was tied at zero before the Wildcats opened up the floodgates in the third period, scoring all eight of their goals.
‘It was tough to get any flow early on with a lot of penalties being called. We had good puck movement on our power play, which was a big difference,? said Hague.
Dean Couwlier had four assists and Hocker had two goals and two assists. Marney chipped in two goals and one assist, while Siitari added three assists. Kaks scored twice for the Wildcats, Buday had a goal and an assist and Nolan Chapman had two assists .
Even with the victory, Hague wasn’t happy with the team’s focus for the full three periods, which is something that he has stressed since the beginning of the season.
‘Our focus has been three full periods, which we didn’t have tonight,? he said. However, he added that it was a nice league win.
The boys go on the road for their next couple of games. Lapeer East gets another crack at home against the Wildcats on Dec. 16 before they travel to Fraser on Dec. 18.
