MS Cheer team takes 1st in Fenton

The middle school cheerleading program finished their season by taking first at the Fenton Competition on Saturday, Feb 13.
They defeated the team from Lapeer by .2 points, giving them their third first place finish of the season.
It was a scramble to register for the event because the competition that was scheduled to take place at Oxford High School was cancelled, so Coach Kelly Oles wasn’t sure how the girls were going to perform after only having one hour to practice the last minute changes to their program.
The girls came out and executed flawlessly in the first round, building a 20 point lead heading into the final performance. In the second round, the girls suffered a 22-point penalty, which put their lead in doubt.
When the final scores were revealed, the Wildcats found themselves in front of the pack with a score of 408.4920. Lapeer finished second with 408.2400 points, while Armstrong Middle School was third with 383.6200 points.
‘What a great way to end the season,? said Oles. ‘It was such a tough competition and this girls are amazing. Coach B (Katie Berghorn) and I are so proud of the girls and could never have asked for a better team. We love them all so much and wish only the best to all the girls,? she added.
