Varsity cheer squad accomplishes team goals, qualify for regionals

The Varsity Cheerleaders wrapped up a very successful season which saw them accomplish all of their goals they set for the season.
They finished third place overall in their final year in the Flint Metro League, amassing 1,957.272 points over the three league competitions.
They also finished first at a couple of outside events, and over the course of the year, they broke 700 points on several occasions.
All of their success gave them confidence when they headed into districts, and when they were over, they qualified for regionals at Airport High School in Carleton, MI with their third place finish.
‘Not only did we accomplish our goals, but the mentality of the team has changed,? said Head Coach Shari Russell. ‘They’ve begun to understand that conditioning is an integral part of their training that allows them to become stronger, better athletes, which in turn, allows them to perform more difficult skills.?
Russell said that the team has also started to grow on a personal level. ‘They are a family that supports and encourages each other. They genuinely care about each other. This has been a huge part of our success and makes the success so much more special,? she added.
Regionals are on Saturday, Feb. 27.
