The Wildcats closed out their regular season by winning their last six games, giving them a 19-5 overall record for the season.
Their last victory was a 2-1 decision over Swartz Creek on Saturday, Feb. 27 in an intense contest on Senior night.
‘We outshot them 40-16 for the game and their goalie was very strong,? said Head Coach Dave Hague. ‘Both times we played them this season it was an intense atmosphere.?
The victory over the Dragons gave them a 12-2 record in their final year in the Flint Metro League.
This year’s seniors were Corey Hrischuk, Blaine Marney, Dennis Siitari and Will Buday.
Their previous five games saw the Wildcats defeat Linden 8-3, defeat Kearsley 4-2, defeat Lincoln Park 7-2 in a game that was played at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, defeat Kearsley 4-1 and defeat New Boston Huron 2-1 in overtime.
‘I’m very proud of our team this year and what we were able to accomplish during the regular season,? he said. ‘It’s a very competitive group of players and coaches, and we are excited about seeing what we can do in the postseason.?
Hague is ready to get the playoffs going.
‘Our boys are in good shape heading into game one. There is no doubt it’s going to be a battle and we’re going to have to be aggressive and make sure we are winning the small one-on-one battles every game.?
They battle Clio March 2 to begin the regional playoffs. Oxford previously beat Clio 9-1 back in November 2009.
