Girls claim 1st, boys 3rd at Oxford Invite

Despite the cold weather and even snow flurries, the Wildcat boys and girls track teams represented Oxford well during the 48th annual Oxford ‘Elmer Ball? Track and Field Invitational against 14 other teams from Oakland and Macomb County.
The girls barely edged out Novi High School to claim first place at the Invite, while the boys finished third.
Overall, Oxford claimed six first places between the two teams in the 17 events.
The girls won four events, the 4 x 800 meter relay, the 4 x 400 meter relay, the 100 meter hurdles won by senior Kate Wolanin and the long jump by freshman Jessica Howell. Wolanin also tied for first in the girls high jump and finished second in the 300 meter hurdles.
Other standout preformances include sophomore Sarah Hillebrand finishing third in the pole vault; sophomore Jessica Brasington finishing sixth in the shot put; freshman Jessica Howell finishing third in the 100 meter dash; sophomore Brittany Johnson finishing second in the 800 meter run and freshman Booke Kovacic finishing third in both the 1600 and 3200 meter run.
Meanwhile, senior Chris Rolle claimed victory in the 200 meter dash and junior Aaron Stuk won in the 110 meter hurdles for the boys.
The boys pole vault saw three Wildcats in the top six, with senior Austin Westmoreland finishing second, senior Steven Ferguson finishing fourth and sophomore Cody Westmoreland finishing sixth.
Other top performances for the boys include junior Sir Ralph Rodriguez, who finished second in the discus throw and third in the shot put and junior TJ Bearse finishing third in teh 300 meter hurdles.
Earlier in the week, Oxford opened up it’s final season in the Flint Metro League by taking on Linden and Swartz Creek.
The girls went 2-0, defeating Linden 88-49 and defeating Swartz Creek 117-18. The boys defeated Linden 75.5-61.5 before losing to Swartz Creek 89-48.
There next meets are at Clio on Wednesday, April 21 and at North Farmington High School on Friday, April 23 to compete against North Farmington and Holly.
