Sheriff’s detectives arrest Oxford Township man for molestation

After a lengthy investigation, Oakland County Sheriff Detectives arrested an Oxford Township resident for Criminal Sexual Conduct after he allegedly molested three female victims under the age of 14.
OCSD arrested 66-year-old Oxford Township resident Joseph Anthony Barnowsky on April 15 and charged him with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 1st degree, which has a sentence of up to life in prison, and five counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 2nd degree, a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
These acts allegedly involved penetration and sexual touching on his part.
Deputies from the Sheriff’s Oxford Township substation were dispatched to a Criminal Sexual Conduct complaint on Jan. 27, 2010 that occured in Oxford Township years ago after one of the victims told her mother of the alleged assaults.
The first victim was one of Barnowsky’s relatives. She was allegedly molested by him from 2004-2006 while she was between the ages of 12-14. The second victim is a friend of Barnowsky’s first victim and the alleged assaults occured from 2004-2006 while she was between the ages of 12-14. The third victim is a friend of one of Barnowsky’s younger female relatives and the alleged assault occured in August of 2009 when she was approximately 10 years old.
The alleged assaults occured at Barnowsky’s mobile home in the Parkhurst Mobile Home Park and at his son’s home in the same park in Oxford Township while he was babysitting his grandchildren. Barnowsky would allegedly provide the victims with cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana and show them pornography.
Based on their investigation, the Detectives from the Oxford Township Substation were able to obtain a warrant from the Oakland County Prosecutors Office against Barnowsky.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard said that, “It is disgusting what has taken place in this case. This sexual predator has committed the most heinous crimes against poor innocent young girls who they trusted. We will do all we can to support the victims through prosecution, family support and counseling and hope that they will somehow be able to overcome and persevere.”
Barnowsky was arraigned on April 16 on the charges in the 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills and given bond in the amount of $350,000 cash or surety and no 10% option.
Barnowsky has a Pre-exam Conference set for Monday, April 16 before Judge Nicholson at the 52-3 District Court.
