Strong FML start for Cats as they thump Clio

The strong start to the Flint Metro League season continued for the Oxford varsity boys and girls track teams as they each defeated Clio on Wednesday, April 21.
The Boys defeated the Mustangs 109-28 after taking first place in 16 of the 17 events on the day, including three sweeps.
Clio swept the high jump, the only event the Wildcat’s did not win.
Oxford was able to sweep the pole vault with Austin Westmoreland, Cody Westmoreland and Steven Ferguson finishing one, two and three. The second sweep for Oxford was the 100 meter hurdles, with Aaron Stuk finishing first, TJ Bearse finishing second and Doug Klimbal placing third.
The last sweep for the Wildcats was the 200 meter dash, with Chris Rolle placing first, Anthony McDugald second and Mike Cynowa third.
The Varsity Girls track team didn’t have much of a challenge from the Mustangs as they handily defeated them 116.5 to 19.5.
The Girls scored points in every single event, while capturing first place in 16 of the 17 events.
The hurdle events belonged to the Wildcats as they swept both the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles.
In the 100 meter hurdles, Kate Wolainin finished first, Katie Tuski finished second and Sara Neibor was third.
Neibor won the 300 meter hurdles, with Andrea Kocher finishing second and Tuski third.
‘It was very good overall,? said Head Coach Jeff Zoli. ‘The kids preformed well and it was a good night for track.?
The track teams then traveled to the North Farmington Raider Relays on Friday, April 23, where they competed against 12 other schools.
The girls finished second to Dearborn Divine Child, while the Boys placed seventh.
The girls captured first place in the Pole Vault Relay, where the combined height of the three vaulters was used to determine the winner. Molly Bonfiglio, Sarah Hillebrand and Signe Pederson combined to go 23 feet and 11 inches.
The girls took second in the Raider Relay, Spring Medley and High Jump and finished third in the 6400 meter Relay, Distance Medley, 1600 meter relay and Long Jump relay.
The boys also claimed first place in the Pole Vault relay with Austin and Cody Westmoreland and Ferguson combining to go 32 feet six inches.
The boys also received third place in the 800 meter relay.
