X-country teams do well at Brother Rice Invite

Another week of running equaled another solid showing for the boys and girls cross country teams, finishing second and fifth respectively at the Brother Rice Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Between the two teams the Wildcats had eight medalists; five for the boys and three for the girls.
Senior Captain Dylan Smith was the leading medalist for the Wildcats, finishing fifth with a time of 17:33. Sophomore Ryan Gillespie finished sixth with a time of 17:40, while sophomore Ross Chapman finished 21st with a time of 18:26.
Rounding out the top five for the boys were junior Alec Smith, who finished 22nd with a time of 18:37 and senior captain Curtis Kotcher, who finished 24th with a time of 18:46.
Freshman Noah Jenkins and Joey Ufolla earned a spot in the first Varsity OAA Jamboree with their efforts in the junior varsity race. Jenkins ran a 18:40, while Ufolla ran a 19:08.
The girls were lead by sophomore runner Brooke Kovacic, who finished first in the meet with a time of 19:13. Junior Brittany Johnson’s time of 21:23 placed her 14th, while junior Chelsea Johnson was 17th with a time of 21:29.
Junior Olivia Hernandez and sophomore Abby Wrobel rounded out the top five for the girls, both finishing in the mid 23:00’s according to Head Coach Ray Sutherland.
He also noted that sophomore Lauren Moloney earned a spot in the varsity race at the OAA Jamboree after her successful run of 23:35 in the junior varsity race.
Overall, Sutherland was pleased with how well the girls ran. ‘I thought we ran very competitively,? he said.
The Wildcats competed in the first OAA Jamboree on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
