Varsity Boys Soccer Head Coach John Thaler knew that the Oakland Activities Association was going to be a challenge this season.
After opening league OAA White Division play with a victory, the Wildcats have lost three straight, losing 3-1 to Berkley on Tuesday, Sept. 7 and 4-1 to Avondale on Thursday, Sept. 10.
They lost to Farmington the week before.
‘We expected to play some great teams in the OAA and that is what we have gotten,? said Thaler. ‘Three of our opponents are ranked in the entire state thus far. We can only improve our game by playing better teams.?
Avondale jumped out to a 2-0 lead 20 minutes into the game and was up 4-0 before junior Marco Bonfiglio scored on a penalty kick.
The Wildcats applied tremendous pressure in the second half and created numerous scoring opportunities, but were thwarted every time.
Bonfiglio also scored the only goal for the Wildcats against Berkley.
Oxford currently sits at 6-3 overall, 1-3 in the OAA White Division.
