The Varsity Volleyball team took to the road and headed up to Frankenmuth to take part in a 16-team invitational on Saturday, Sept. 25, where they finished 5-0-1 on the day and took home the championship trophy.
They defeated Clio, Carlson, Andover and Tawas before taking on host Frankenmuth in the finals.
In the championship match, the Eagles won the first set after jumping out to a 7-1 lead and jumped ahead of Oxford 7-1 in the second set as well.
However, Oxford would battle back and take the second set 25-20 and used the momentum to defeat the Eagles 15-11 in the third set and take home the trophy.
Freshman Darien Bandel was a force at the net, blocking 10 shots throughout the day, while Novak, Downs and junior Olivia Krause had 30 digs each. Bailey and junior Maggie Rourke each had 24 digs.
The Wildcats were lead offensively by senior Casey Novak, who finished with 29 kills and Bailey with 21. Senior Tammy Toteff and junior Katie Bearse had 14 kills apiece, while junior Lindsey Leppek and senior Alex LaBarge each had 11 kills.
Life in the Oakland Activities Association White division is off to a smooth start after they defeated their first two opponents this past week.
The Wildcats are sitting 2-0 in the league with victories over West Bloomfield on Thursday, Sept. 23 and Southfield on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
Oxford was able to overpower West Bloomfield in four sets. Novak lead the way with 18 kills, followed by junior Kate Bailey with 13 kills and Toteff with 12 kills. Senior Beth Downs recorded 16 digs.
Southfield welcomed the Wildcats with a stern test in their first OAA contest, which Oxford was able to pull out after a 15-13 victory in the fifth set.
Oxford suffered a blow at the start of the second set when senior captain Allyson Winget went down with a knee injury.
Leppek stepped in for Winget and contributed four solo blocks and four block assists.
Toteff and Bearse were frustrated Southfield hitters all game, each getting four blocks at the net.
Novak led the Wildcats offensive attack with 13 kills and 21 digs, while senior Sarah Neiboer had 21 kill assists.
The Wildcats improved to 15-7-4 overall and looked to stay perfect in the OAA White when they battled Birmingham Groves on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
