Swimmers make it two in a row

The boys varsity swim team made it two victories in a row over Oakland Activities Association teams when they defeated Hazel Park 115-52 on Thursday, Jan. 13.
Three additional school records were broken during the meet in the 200 Free Relay, 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke. Oxford finished first in 10 of the 11 events and swept the 100 Butterfly, the 500 Freestyle and the 400 Free Relay.
‘I’m really proud of how far the boys have come this season and I hope they realize that all of the hard work is what brings about these results,? head swim coach Jackie Rank said.
The individual meet results were:
200 Medley Relay: Oxford A relay of Jarred Butler, Zach Lavender, Jimmy Walker and Blake Hibdon finished first with a time of 1:55.01.
200 Freestyle: Captain Corey Bell finished second for Oxford with a time of 2:30.09. Nico McNeil came in third and Alex McDonald was fifth for the Wildcats.
200 Individual Medley: Captain Joey Tasch came in first for the Wildcats with a time of 2:25.66. Lewis Marshall was second.
50 Freestyle: Walker came in first for Oxford with a time of 23.13.
100 Butterfly: The Wildcats swept the event with Dylan Hency finishing first with a time of 1:12.56. Marshall and Vandecar finished second and third respectively.
100 Freestyle: Sean Thomas finished first for Oxford with a time of 1:01.26.
500 Freestyle: Oxford swept the event with Butler taking first in a time of 5:23.02. Tasch came in second and Austin Twork finished third.
200 Free Relay: The A relay of Walker, Hibdon, Hency and Tasch finished first is a school record time of 1:40.65. The B relay of Lavender, Thomas, Bell and Twork was second.
100 Backstroke: Butler finished first in a school record time of 1:05.33. Vandecar finished second and Cody Wieball was fourth.
100 Breaststroke: Lavender broke his own record from last year with his winning time of 1:12.78. Dwight Merrill finished third and Ben Dixon was fourth.
400 Free Relay: The Wildcats took the top two spots in the event. The A relay of Walker, Tasch, Hibdon and Butler finished first with a time of 3:41.57, with the B relay of Hency, Vandecar, Daniel Stockard and Thomas in second.
Oxford swam against rival Brandon on Tuesday, Jan. 18.
