Addison approves $1.1M balanced budget

Addison Township has a balanced budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year.
The Board of Trustees voted 7-0 in favor of adopting the 2011-2012 fiscal year budget at a special meeting on Saturday, March 26.
The township will be operating with an estimated total revenue of $1,106,989 and expenditures totalling $1,106,989.
‘We are doing quite well,? Addison Township Supervisor Bruce Pearson said. ‘Even though our revenues are down roughly 10 percent . . . our expenditures are expected to decrease by $127,761, or 10.5 percent.?
Pearson also noted the township decreased their general fund carry over for this year by nearly $60,000, or 24 percent.
He added the township was able to save nearly $30,000 on their health insurance by opening it up and bidding it out.
‘We decided this year we were going to open up the bids,? Pearson told the 21 township residents, media and Addison township residents in the audience. ‘We were paying close to $69,000-$70,000 a year for liability in this township; our total bill now is close to $40,000.?
The board also approved several other budgets.
The fire operating budget has estimated revenues of $867,000 with expenditures of $867,000, leaving a balance of $0. The fire capital budget has estimated revenues of $406,220 with expenditures of $402,220, leaving a balance of $4,000. The police protection budget has estimated revenues of $1,071,006 with expenditures of $1,070,000, leaving a balance of $1,006. The park and recreation budget has estimated revenues of $69,170 with expenditures of $69,170.
Overall, the township has estimated revenues of $3,520,385 and expenditures of $3,515,379, leaving a balance of $5,006.
The township supervisor will make $43,352 in salary and benefits, while the treasurer will make $39,502 in salary and benefits. The township clerk will make $54,100 in salary and benefits.
The township’s tax millage will also stay at the current levels. The total mills set for Addison Township is 8.1182 mills.
The general operations millage is set at 1.0748 mills; 2.2344 mills for the fire department operating, 0.75 mills for fire capital, 3.4874 mills for police and 0.5716 mills for library operations.
