Lady Wildcats sweep Southfield Lathrup

The cold weather didn’t cool off the Wildcat varsity softball team’s bats as they swept a doubleheader from Southfield Lathrup on Monday, May 16.
Oxford won 15-2 in game one and 19-4 in game two.
Leading 6-2 in the top of the fifth inning, the Wildcats struck for nine runs in the frame, eventually forcing the mercy.
Sophomore captain Autumn Cervantez lead the Wildcats with a double, triple and four run’s batted in. Junior captain Cassie Edgemon had two singles, two rbi’s and two stolen bases, while senior captain Alyssa Hurtado had two triples, one of which was stretched into an inside the park homerun after a throwing error by Southfield Lathrup, a double and three rbi’s.
In game two, Oxford got the longball working as Cervantez and sophomore Nicole Allen hit their first home runs of their varsity careers.
Cervantez also recorded a double, single and four RBI’s. Senior Amanda Boyer had a homerun and three RBI’s and senior Courtney May had a single, double and three runs scored.
‘This win was really good for our confidence at the plate and I couldn’t be happier with the performance the girls put up,? varsity head coach Kristi McDevitt said.
With the wins, Oxford improves to 5-16 overall.
This week, they host Clarkston in a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 18 beginning at 4 p.m. Then they travel to Algonac High School on Thursday, May 19 for a doubleheader.
