Middle school bowlers win division championships

Two Oxford Middle School athletic teams won championships this weekend.
On Saturday, March 21, the Oxford A Boys bowling team and Oxford B girls bowling team won the Flint Metro Middle School Bowling Conference Championship.
The boys defeated Flint Kearsley A 5-0 to win Division 1, while the girls defeated the Davison C Boys 5-0 to win Division 3.
‘We put in a lot of work this year…the kids have progressively gotten better and better every year and I am extremely proud of them,? league director Zene Wynkoop said.
The boys won both baker games against Kearsley by scores of 191-125 in game one and 190-169 in game two. Brady Wynkoop went 4-4 in baker and rolled a 189 in game one to help lead the Wildcats.
Also scoring well in game one was Drew Pappas with a 233 and Jake Delong 200. Delong also bowled a 210 in game two, followed by Eric Armbruster’s 178.
On the season, the A boys finished with a record of 38.5-11.5.
Each victory in baker matches and regular matches counted towards a team’s win total Wynkoop said.
Even though the Oxford B girls missed two bowlers due to a band field trip, they responded by beating the Davison C girls 131-64 in game one of baker and 143-77 in game two of baker and Hannah Farmer’s games of 134 and 152 helped the Wildcats clinch a conference championship.
Savannah Dehmel also tossed games of 117 and 100 to lead the Wildcats.
The Wildcats produced a total of seven teams in the FMMSBC League, which consisted of teams from Davison, Flint Kearsley, Swartz Creek, Flushing and Flint-Carmen Ainsworth.
A total of 30 teams were in the league, which was divided up into three leagues based on high, medium or low scoring averages Wynkoop said.
The season began the second week in March and ran for 10 weeks.
Wynkoop would like the thank all the staff at OMS for all the support his kids received throughout the year.
‘We are very appreciative to the middle school for all of the support they give the program with helping me get the word out to the students before the school years starts about our program and doing all the things they do with the kids in school making the announcements with the match results every week,? Wynkoop said.
