Swimmers take 2nd in tri-meet

The varsity swim and dive team finished in second place in a tri-match against Notre Dame Prep and Avondale on Thursday, Sept. 15.
Oxford would lose to Notre Dame Prep 101-84 while defeating Avondale 127-59.
Highlights from the meet include:
200 Medley Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of sophomore Haley Kornburger, junior Caitlyn Wroblewski, freshman Taylor Curtis and freshman Melissa Johnson finished third against Notre Dame Prep and first against Avondale in a time of 2:06.47.
The B relay of freshman Sydney Liverance, sophomore Elizabeth Wilkins, sophomore Rose FitzCrane and junior captain Miranda Murphy completed the sweep of Avondale in the event.
200 Freestyle: Curtis set a school record with her first place of 2:05.23. Senior Amanda delaPaz came in second against Avondale and third against Notre Dame, while sophomore Melissa Skelton came in third against Avondale and fifth against Notre Dame Prep.
200 Individual Medley: Johnson, Liverance and Wilkins would sweep the event against Avondale and come in third, fourth and fifth against Notre Dame Prep.
Johnson paced the Wildcats with her time of 2:44.52.
50 Freestyle: Kornburger’s time of 24.86 was good enough for first place in the heat. Senior Captain Claire Patrell was third against Avondale and fourth against Notre Dame Prep, while FitzCrane finished fifth against Avondale.
Diving: Freshman Maura Greene finished third against Avondale and first against Notre Dame Prep with her score of 142.60.
100 Butterfly: Curtis finished first against both schools with her time of 1:08.39. FitzCrane finished third against Avondale and fifth against Notre Dame Prep. Junior Sammi Kurk was fourth against Avondale.
100 Freestyle: delaPaz, Patrell and Murphy finished first, second and fourth respectively against both schools. delaPaz posted a time of 1:01.11.
500 Freestyle: Johnson’s time of 6:21.51 placed her first against Avondale and fourth against Notre Dame Prep. Melissa Skelton was second against Avondale and fifth against Notre Dame Prep, while senior Grace Gailbraith was third against Avondale.
200 Freestyle Relay: Oxford A relay of Liverance, Wroblewski, Patrell and delaPaz was first against Avondale and second against Notre Dame Prep, posting a time of 1:58.28.
Oxford’s B relay of FitzCrane, Kurk, Stockard and Johnson was third against Avondale.
100 Backstroke: Liverance finished second against Avondale and fourth against Notre Dame Prep with her time of 1:16.91. Freshman Allison Miller was fourth against Avondale and fifth against Notre Dame Prep. Freshman Abbie Fredericks finished fifth against Avondale.
100 Breaststroke: Kornburger came in first against both teams and set a school record time of 1:12.88. Wilkins finished second against Avondale and third against Notre Dame Prep, while Wroblewski was fourth against Avondale and fifth against Notre Dame Prep.
400 Freestyle Relay: The A Relay of Curtis, delaPaz, Patrell and Kornburger finished first against both schools and established a school record of 3:57.64.
The B relay of Kurk, junior Brenda Flasher, Wroblewski and Murphy was third against Avondale.
Up next for the Wildcats is a date at Brandon at on Tuesday, Sept. 20 before they return home to face Rochester Stoney Creek on Thursday, Sept. 22.
