Swimmers send Ferndale home wet and defeated

It was quite the night in the pool for the varsity boys swim and dive team Thursday evening.
In addition to honoring their seniors for their years of hard work and dedication, school and pool records were falling left and right during the 144-38 victory over Ferndale Jan. 26.
According to varsity head coach Jackie Rank, four school and two pool records were established during the meet.
Junior Jarred Butler set the school and pools records for the 200 (1:49.48) and 500 Freestyle (4:59.91). Sophomore Erick Vandecar set the school record in the 200 Individual Medley (2:15.19) and senior Matthew set the school record for diving with 211.40 points. Individual results were:
200 Medley Relay – Oxford’s A relay of sophomore Blake Hibdon, senior Dwight Merrill, Vandecar and senior Joey Tasch finished first with a time of 1:51.88. Oxford’s B relay of senior Daniel Stockard, sophomore James Beaupied, freshmen Chad Scribner sophomore Hunter Deplaunty was second.
200 Freestyle – Butler finished first with a school record time of 1:49.48. Freshmen Cheyne Stresky and senior Sean Thomas finished second and third respectively.
200 Individual Medley – Vandecar was first in a school record time of 2:15.19. Sophomore Lewis Marshall was second and Scribner was fourth for the Wildcats.
50 Freestyle – Tasch finished first with a season best time of 23.75. Juniors Nico McNeil and Corey Jones rounded out the top three.
Diving – Campagiorni finished first, racking up a school record 211.40 points. Freshmen Jared Tasch was second and sophomore Marco Campagiorni was third.
100 Butterfly – Vandecar finished first with a personal best time of 1:01.29. Joey Tasch finished second and sophomore Tim Cook was fourth.
100 Freestyle – Hibdon finished first in a time of 55.23. Thomas and sophomore Doug Butkiewicz rounded out the top three.
500 Freestyle – Butler qualified for states and set the school and pool record with his time of 4:59.91. Stresky and Marshall were second and third respectively.
200 Freestyle Relay – The Wildcat’s A Relay of Jones, Stockard, Merrill and Butler finished first with a time of 1:41.38. The B Relay of Thomas, Cook, Scribner and McNeil was second.
100 Backstroke – Jones finished third in 1:10.24. Stockard and sophomore Chris Lavender finished fourth and fifth respectively.
100 Breaststroke – Merrill finished first with a time of 1:14.84. Beaupied and Scribner placed second and third respectively.
400 Freestyle Relay – The A Relay of Tasch, Hibdon, Vandecar and Butler was first, finishing with a time of 3:32.45. The B Relay of Thomas, Butkiewicz, McNeil and Stresky was second.
Up next for the swimmers is the Oakland County Meet, which takes place February 3-4 at Waterford Mott High School.
