If all goes well, this Thanksgiving I’ll be celebrating with family down south. I’m very thankful for the opportunity to do that.
I’m thankful for my work, 10 years now as editor of The Clarkston News. The first group of second graders I gave my newspaper history spiel in May of 2007 are now high school seniors, licensed to drive, almost ready to graduate in the spring.
My how time flies.
I’m thankful for indoor plumbing, as I’ve always been since spending seven months without it while in the service.
It’s been a challenge lately, with a hopelessly backed up sink in the kitchen. The clog or whatever is somewhere deep in the pipes, immune to chemicals and plunging, so now I drain the sink into a bucket.
I’m thankful for all the creative people my age who decided nothing nowadays is as good as the stuff we had as kids, so they’re just remaking the old stuff.
New “Star Wars” movies? Keep them coming.
“Bloom County?” Sure. It was brought back due to the election season but I’m hoping it continues.
Marvel and DC comic book characters all over movies and television? It’s all good to me. Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One, Phase Two, Phase Three, the new DC movie universe? Sure.
“Godzilla vs. King Kong?” I remember watching the original as a kid at my cousins’ house in Canada. I’ll watch it again when they get around to remaking it.
I like how CW network is now anchored in DC comics – Supergirl, Flash, Green Arrow, all the folks in “Legends of Tomorrow.”
“Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage” on Netflix, “Gotham” on Fox? OK, things may be getting a bit out of hand, but for that I’m still thankful.
I’m thankful for the Anime dub industry, especially the Texans who built a company, Funimation, making English dubbed versions of Japanese shows of all sorts. Then they travel to conventions around the country to sign your stuff, talk about their work, and take selfies with you. I love those guys.
Knowing grown men and women are making their livings performing and producing superhero movies and television shows makes me happy, and thankful.
