The Mountaineers made a quick start in scoring during their home opener against Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest last Thursday.
On the first play, the Everest Collegiate Football‘s Nino Mastromatteo went on a 74-yard run to score 19 seconds into the game, to score the first of five touchdowns in their 35-0 victory.
The Mountaineers scored again less than two minutes later on a 14-yard pass from Giovanni Mastromatteo to Jimmy Neme.
They closed the first quarter by intercepting Lutheran Northwest’s pass into the endzone.
They held onto possession going into the second quarter and scored their first of three touchdowns in the quarter on a 1-yard run by Josh Legg, with 10:30 on the clock. Legg scored the next touchdown on a 2-yard run four minutes later, 28-0.
Nino Mastromatteo scored with 15 seconds remaining in the half off a 10-yard pass from Giovanni Mastromatteo.
For offense, Giovanni Mastromatteo went 11-for-15 in passing for 183 yards. Neme had five receptions for 117 yards.
Nino Mastromatteo had four receptions for 36 yards and rushed the ball 83 yards on two carries. Legg rushed the ball 65 yards for 11 carries.
Joey Thibodeau was 3-for-3 on PAT attempts and Rodrigo DeNigris went 2-for-2 on PAT attempsts.
Max Engle led defense with six tackles. Trevor Myers and Nino Mastromatteo had five tackles and an interception. Legg had five tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Giovanni Mastromatteo had two interceptions. Nate Emmert-Buck had three tackles and recovered a fumble.

The Everest Collegiate Varsity Volleyball team opened their season defeating Southfield Christian in a five set thriller, Aug. 21. They went 25-5, 16-25, 27-25, 10-25 and 19-17. They returned to the court the following Saturday at Oakland Christian winning first place in the silver bracket at their tournament. Then, they shut out Our Lady of the Lakes on Aug. 28, 3-0.
The Everest Collegiate Boys Soccer team was also successful against Southfield Christian on Aug. 21 with a 1-0 win.. A goal scored by Fernando Caccia and a shutout by goalie Shane Dolan led the team to victory.
