Angels Place Race returns to downtown Clarkston on May 16.
“It’s a great race, very well organized,” said race volunteer Paul Maxwell. “We work to improve it every year, with lots of door prizes from restaurants and other local businesses. We have great support from all the local businesses and we’re always seeking more.”
In its 13th year, the race was founded in 2008, leading off with the Bruce Clifton 5K run, and later adding a 5K walk, 10K run, and one mile fun run.
“It’s the only one through beautiful downtown, with great support from St. Daniel’s parish, Village of Clarkston’s City Manager Jonathan Smith and DPW, sheriff’s office, Independence Townsip substation, Independence Township Fire Department, and volunteers,” Maxwell said. “We’re very grateful for their partnership with us.”
Community partnerships also include a free Couch-to-5K training program in association with Deer Lake Athletic Club, with strength training and practice runs.
Angels’ Place Race kickoff fundraiser will be at Mr. B’s Roadhouse, 6761 S. Dixie Highway, on Feb. 20 from 5-9 p.m. A portion of customers’ bill will go to the race.
The non profit group provides 21 homes and professional support to adults with developmental disabilities.
“Hopefully one day there will be a home in Clarkston,” Maxwell said.
The 2020 Angels’ Place Race Planning Committee includes Charlie Caine, Rick Clark, Anne Clifton, Deanna Donahoo, Patti Braunreuther, Patty Hopcian, Shannon Keen, Maggie and Paul Maxwell, Michelle Peterson, Steve Savoie, and Andrea Yedlin.
Individual registration is $35 through May 3. A $5 discount coupon code, “ANGEL20,” for on-line registrations only is good through Feb. 29.
