The Clarkston Varsity Volleyball team defeated Lake Orion last week, taking all three sets.
“We might have put together our best match against Lake Orion that we’ve played so far,” said Clarkston Varsity Volleyball Head Coach Kelly Pinner. “We just really challenged their passers all night long. They really had a hard time running any kind of offense against us.”
Clarkston won the first set 25-9 and then the next two sets both 25-16.
“We were really focused,” Pinner said, adding the way last year ended in the first round of districts to the Dragons was motivation. “I think our returners definitely wanted to prove something against them. It was nice being home against them even if it was at the junior high. We tried to spice up the gym a little bit – put up senior posters. I think it gave us home feel which we haven’t had yet. All of them played well.”
Summer Jidas had three aces and 20 digs. Claire Nowicki had 15 kills, and Sydney Hasenfratz had seven kills and five blocks.
The Wolves went 2-1 on Saturday. They went 2-0 against North Branch, 25-20, 25-11; and Northville, 25-16, 25-18. They lost to Marian, 25-10, 25-18.
For the day, Jidas had four aces and 39 digs; Nowicki had 27 kills and 17 digs; Hasenfratz had five aces, 11 kills and six blocks; and Elizabeth Adams had 11 kills and ten blocks.
The Wolves (15-2, 5-0 OAA Red) opened the week against Bloomfield Hills and host Oxford at Clarkston High School on Thursday, which is also Senior Night.
“They have just been itching to get back in their own gym,” said Pinner. “I think it will give us an edge. Senior night is always fun. The girls always play up for senior night which I think they need to because Oxford is going to be a huge challenge for us.”
JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows. Spectators are limited due to COVID.
