Carpenter Elementary School students used their Winter Intersession recently to take a trip to the bottom of the ocean, so to speak.
Students learned about ocean life and its ecosystem during an ‘Under the Sea?-themed week Feb. 9-13. Students did hands-on activities such as making fish prints, rainbow fish and composing their own message in a bottle, while experimenting with the weight and taste of salt water versus fresh water.
The kids also researched the effects pollution has on the water’s ecosystem. They traveled to the Belle Isle Aquarium and got to experience the inhabitants of a real live tide pool courtesy of the Living Science Foundation.
