25 years ago – 1996
“Clarkston man opens new music store” Building a band was something Clarkston resident Randy Volin knew a lot about. Building a business was new for the co-owner of Rockin’ Daddy’s, a music store specializing in guitars in downtown Lake Orion.
“Pitching in” Ten kindergartners from Cedar Crest Academy, who make up Daisy Girl Scout Troop 041, donated 75 handmade bookmarks to Independence Township Library in honor of National Book Week.
“Clutch hitting propels CHS to opening win” The Clarkston Varsity Baseball team won two close games as they opened the spring season with a 3-2 win against Hazel Park with a game-winning hit from Chad Bailey in the eight inning. They beat Troy, 6-5

50 years ago – 1971
“Township truck tumbled” A truck belonging to Independence Township and driven by Keith Humbert, township trustee, overturned on Sashabaw between I-75 and the entrance to Pine Knob. It was being used in the Bottles for Building campaign.
“Win ribbons” Two Clarkston area girls participated in Michigan State University’s 23rd annual Block and Bridle Horse Show. Lynn Race placed sixth out of 39 contestants in Women’s Western Pleasure and Carol Taylor finished fourth out of 37 in Women’s Western Horsemanship.
“Around town” Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Allen and daughters, Dixie and Cheryl, of Hillsboro Road spent the Easter vacation visiting relatives in West Virginia.

75 years ago – 1946
“Local girl featured in dance program” Miss Inez Mae Miller of Clarkston was featured in a program dance given at Stephens College, Columbia, Mo., by Orchesis, an honorary dance group.
“Golden anniversary celebrated Sunday” Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hibner of 51 E. Washington had spent 50 happy years together. They celebrated it on Sunday, April 21. They enjoyed a family dinner and a visit with their children.
“Our boys and girls in service” Pfc. and Mrs. William H. Mansfield and children returned to Clarkston on Saturday, April 20. They were all feeling fine. William returned to Pine Camp, N.Y. on Tuesday.
